| Song Details: | Originally Released on New Grass Revival's final studio album, Friday Night in America. On that album it was titled Big Foot (two words). A live Flecktones version was released in 1996 on the album Live Art with the title listed as just one word, Bigfoot. Bigfoot was nominated for a Grammy at the 32nd Annual Awards for Best Country Instrumental Performance, Béla's 2nd Grammy nomination. Randy Scrugg's took home the trophy in the end, but this was the 2nd Béla original with New Grass Revival to be nominated for the award, the only two nominations NGR would receive throughout the 17 years the band toured. NGR played Bigfoot regularly for the year leading up to Friday Night in America and through their final tour in 1989, often with a lengthy introduction explaining the arrangement of the song and how each section and instrument relates to the titular character. Post NGR, Bigfoot became a Flecktones staple in the mid-90's during the Trio era, played almost any time Sam Bush guested. It was then put on the shelf for almost a decade. It resurfaced in 2005 with the Acoustic Trio shows and even made it's way back into Flecktones setlists the following years, always performed as a trio, without Coffin. There haven't been any Bigfoot sightings since Coffin stopped touring with the Flecktones full time in 2008, but he's still out there... |
